RIP my friend

Karen Golly LHS '81

Karen Golly Naples, FL

Karen E. Golly, 49, of Naples, passed quietly after a brief hospitalization on Sunday, August 18, 2013. Karen was the precious daughter of Gordyne and the late James F. Golly (1931 to 2007).

A kindred spirit, Karen moved to Naples with her family as a young girl from upstate New York and had spent her life here. One simply could not go anywhere in Naples without tripping over someone she knew. Karen always gave completely of herself. It might have been the neighborhood children, friends or simply those less fortunate than herself; she thought of others welfare before her own. Karen was active in charity fundraising for causes she held close to her heart.

She is survived by her beloved mother, Gordyne MacArther Golly; son, Colton; fiancé, Thomas W. Schillig; and brothers, David and Bruce Golly and their extended families; all from Naples. To all of the many friends and the lives of the countless people Karen touched, she will be deeply and dearly missed, it was an honor and privilege to call her 'friend.'

'<$>...The sun shall shine again one day, but surely it will have one less ray...<$>'

At the time of her passing, Karen was working on a charity golf tournament for the 'PAWS Assistance Dogs', 2496 Kirkwood Avenue, Naples FL 34112, (239) 775-1660.

In lieu of flowers, anyone so motivated can contact Jeannie Bates at PAWS.

Service plans at time of publication are pending. As Karen would say<$>.Live well<$> Laugh often<$>. And Love Much<$>.

Hi everyone.   It's been a while since I have been able to get back into the swing of things, but am glad that both Kathy (McNeese) Wood and Ed has sent me the site again.  I am saddened by the losses to our fellow classmates since we all were together and wish to send my sincerest sympathys to all.  I was with Cindy (Jurek) Davis after the trajic loss of her only son, Denny.  He was a very special young man and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.  As many of you know she and I were best friends and I can only try to imagine her devestation.  Both she and Dennis (her husband) and their girls are doing ok.  If you get an opportunity to drop her a line or two, I am sure she would welcome your messages.

I am so proud of my fellow classmates and the efforts to bring Nancy home.  After seeing all the great pictures from the reunion and your messages on this website, I sure missed out on a great night.  I was in Clearwater having surgery, but I was thinking of you all.

I live in Naples and teach school here.  This is my 23rd year of teaching.  I am currently working on my doctorate, so I am keeping busy.  I have one daughter, Michelle, and one granddaughter, Bella. I got divorced in "82", so I have been busy being a single parent and working on my career and degrees.  I am hoping that we will have a 35 year class reunion. I really want to see everyone.

Ed, thank you so much for all you have down to assist in giving us the opportunity to reconnect.

Hope to see or hear from you all soon.

Just want to make an amusing comment about Bill Joiner... For those of you that took a look at the great photos taken on Reunion night at the Windstar, there is a terrific shot of Bill Joiner holding two "refreshments" and he has his eyes closed!!

In the dubious attempt that somebody may care...for those of you that were fortunate enough to be in Ms. Marcia West's 3rd Grade Class at Avalon in 1969 (Such as myself, Rhonda Storter, Jim Widner, Elaine Garner, and others), you will notice Bill Joiner sitting in the front row with the same eyes closed expression! I guess some traditions never die!

I don't think I can add much to what everyone has already said other than, I too had a awesome time! I'm so glad I did not mis it. Interesting how some names you remember;  some faces you could not forget and even after 30 years you see this big group of people that you remember like it was yesterday.

There were some people I was hoping to see but there were some people there I really didn't get to talk to that I wanted to..and the evening went by like a flash.

Another BIG thanks again to Ed and Kathy for all their hard work and effort. Many people I talked to didn't even have a 20 or 30 year reunion; so we really got lucky to have this class we do and I hope we can do it again.

At the reunion Mr. Gesdorf told me the class of 78' was very special to him because of our strong comradery
and desire to succeed in life.  No other class since in his career has left such an impression on him.  From what I saw, looks like he was right.

I’m glad I showed up as everybody I really wanted to see was there.  It was funny, even though 30 years passed, we just picked up on our relationships like we left off yesterday…that’s cool!

No better way to remind yourself how short life is when you get to these reunions.  I hope to keep in touch with everyone via email as I continue my travels through life.

Thanks again you guys for the hard work putting this together.

P.S.  Shell…I’m withholding your allowance for releasing that moon photo.

Again, WOW!!!  What a party! First I want to thank Ed and Kathy for a wonderful time and for all of your hard work. Totally awesome and can't wait to see pictures from classmates. I too were very sad as I was unpacking my suitcase and missing everyone already. I was telling my family at breakfast this morning as I shared my fun filled weekend story that I felt so good when I walked in at the reunion and some of you ran to me and hugged me or were just so happy to see me. This truly made me feel that I really was a part of a group of wonderful people that I may have just not been able to share alot of time with . It was always in my head that I didnt fit in and that I was just "the girl that lived in the grass hut" wow was I wrong! Thank you all!!
Anyhow, Life is great and I miss all of you already and I agree that we all need to get together more often. Dont forget that if anyone crosses the alley  to the east coast or flys in to Ft. Lauderdale, look me up (email me) and lets "rock on" at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino here. "I sorta know the owners"  and can show you around!!! :)

We parachuted in through a hole in the space-time continuum, returning momentarily to the place of so many shared, wild, wacky moments of our youths. But the reunion weekend has now entered into the annals of history. At this writing, my plane descends returning me to the normal daily demands of my chosen lifestyle. But I remain blissfully wrapped in the warm glow of satisfaction after a weekend full of surprise encounters with my South Florida past. Most of us were too inebriated to listen to the speeches given during the reunion, but I will reiterate my heartfelt words from that moment. I truly appreciate that you took the plunge and made the commitment to step out of your comfortable day-to-day existence to see what 30 years has done to your past life. For me who has never felt like it is possible to successfully return to the past and attain any great satisfaction in doing so (that was then – this is now mentality), I was proved totally wrong. Although there were many many others that we would have undoubtedly been thrilled to have also shared the weekend together with, our little impromptu assembled group made for a memorable weekend filled with laughter, fond remembrances, snippets of good-natured gossip and renewed friendship. Before time once again, scatters us to the wind and scrambles our fading memories from the weekend, I want to say thank-you for a great time!

That was the most fun I have had in forever. My voice it gone, but I can't stop smiling. Kathy & Ed what a fabulous job! Thanks for all of the time and effort that you put into a wonderful event. Thanks to Scott, Shell, Alex, Debbie M. & Debbie T for hanging with me, as my high school sidekicks were among those who could not attend. I thought we looked pretty good after 30 years! Must be all of the mosquito spray we inhaled when we we young. Jolynn, I will find a bigfoot for the next reunion, best start training. I hear they are meaner than polar bears. Can't wait to see the photo's. Everyone stay in touch, and stay safe.

Ed & Kathy....what a fantastic job you both did!!  I haven't had that much fun in years and it was so great to see everyone...I know I missed saying hello to so many of you as the time flew by.  I was actually sad yesterday because I know we wont do this again for another ten years.....so I'm with Buzz on the cruise thing......!!!!  Carolyn Karpinski...I never did get to talk to you so I'll email you!!!
I'm still in Naples so hopefully some of you locals won't be such strangers.  Thanks to everyone for making it such a great time!!

What a magical and super party!  I had a great time.  A little sore today from dancing all night, but I guess that comes with age.  People that I remembered, actually remembered me.  Love all of you and hope to see you again in 5.

By the way, I need to get in touch with Kathy about a memory book.  Kind of slipped my mind last time when I was kicking up my heels.

To all that were there and not, may God bless you and keep you in His grace.  LOVE ALL OF YOU!

WOW!!!  That's the only word I can think of to summarize this weekend!  What a great time!! Thank you to all of you who made it happen and especially to those who made the effort to travel from all parts of the USA!

My Mother always told me that time goes faster as you get older; well, last night was here and gone in a blink of an eye - I guess I must be about 172 years old!  I can't wait to see the memory book - between Ed, Shell and Brian there must be a gazillion photos to choose from.  Please be certain to edit Shell's selection!!

Thanks again to everyone who helped us remember all those wonderful things about being 17 - and to those who thoughtfully "forgot" some details!!  I'm still smiling!

Love to all,

Ann

P.S.  I'll help with the 35th reunion - maybe we can have annual planning meetings???

I am back in Kissimmee and feeling sad because the time spent together was way too short!  It was so great seeing all of you again and just "catching up"! Thank you Fred and Bill for being such great "dates".  LOL  You're the best!
Thank you Ed and Kathy for everything you did to make our 30th a special time for us all.
If you were unable to be with us, you were in our thoughts.  I hope we don't have to wait another 10 years to get together.  A 35th sounds great to me! If you have my email, I would love any pictures you would like to share.
Take Care Everyone and God Bless!

Wouldn't you know it--I'm here and forgot my invitation--will anyone let me in?  I even forgot my driver's license (wonder if they'll car me? HA).  Even though I don't remember a lot of students it will be fun to see a big gathering of baby boomers.
Take care and see you Friday night and Saturday.  This is a vacation for me since I have been working 30-60 with no days off.  See everyone soon!

Wow, what a response.  Can't wait to see everyone on Saturday night.  We won't be there on Friday as our youngest (13) is playing allstar little league and has practice.

To all of you who sent us condolenses on our son's passing, we truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers.  Chris was a senior at Golden Gate High and was scouting some DII schools to play football at.  He had just celebrated his 18th birthday and was full of life.  Keeping our families in your prayers made it bearable to get thru the days.  You can check him (and me) out at my "myspace" account at www.myspace.com/meet_u_at_the_gates.

On a lighter note, can't wait to see everyone Saturday.  To all of you that can't make, we'll make a toast to you!!

So, only a few days to go until we all get together again.  I was thinking that it might be nice to get our families together on Saturday before the party at the beach.  From what I remember, 16th Avenue South was the "Lely" beach.  Let me know if anyone is interested in getting together and we can make it happen!! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!!  Woo-Hoo!!

It's hard to believe that our reunion is almost here.  I know that there are many that would love to be here but will not be able to for whatever reasons.  We will have photographers onsite to capture our event in pictures and to take individual classmate/couple pictures for our Reunion Memory Book.  If you are not able to attend... please send a digital picture of yourself (with or without spouse) to Lely1978@aol.com so you can be included in the Memory Book too!  Memory Books will be available for purchase ($15-20) to every classmate.  Please email the same email address if you're interested in purchasing your own copy.  We need an idea how many books will be purchased... the more purchased, the better the price.

Looking forward to reliving lots of great memories and reconnecting with our LHS Classmates!

To all of you who have lost a love one recently and not so recently  MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU !  On May 18th it will be 1 year since my father died.  Since April 7th I have lost 5 people I know from age 7 months to 94 years old and one of my 12 year old wolfdogs died this past Monday.  Needless to say I have not been my usual happy self.
But knowing that in a few short weeks I will be seeing so many people who shared a part of my life has given me something joyful to look forward too!  Don't worry I'll be there with a smile on my face.
It's to bad my husband can't come with me you guys would like him.

Ed and Kathy, great job on this event, it seems like a lot more people may make it over the 20th re-union.

OK...  recent posts re: importing of fat furry mammals from the far North are making me a tad nervous about coming back to Naples from the Seattle area!  However, since I plan on moving back to FL in the next month or so, perhaps I can become indigenous again? I for one, CAN believe it has been 30 years since graduating, I’m just surprised I have survived this long, had I known, I would have taken better care of myself! I am also looking forward to seeing all of you in June. Take care.

Dear all (and especially Ed): I checked with the Collier County Courthouse and Jail Complex (that brings back memories!), but despite my persistence, the desk clerk is emphatic that no permit can be issued for the importation of a polar bear from Norway – not even for a Lely High 30 year reunion! So I just wanted to let everyone know that there will be no polar bear wresting event at the reunion as I had hoped. But I am really really looking forward to seeing everyone again! Sincerely, Dr. JoLynn, P.B.W.E. (Polar Bear Wrestler Extraordinaire)

Hi everyone,

I'm wishing everyone a wonderful time at the upcoming 30th; regretfully, I will not be able to attend the event and shall miss seeing all of you.   I will be in graduate school full time and unable to miss classes...thought I could start in Fall, but must begin this Summer, damn it....please enjoy for me, toast to good times and take lots of pictures....I'm sure that won't be a problem for all of you handsome and gorgous souls...smiling !

My thoughts and prayers have been with all those who have lost a loved one, please know that my heart goes out to you and your families in your time of need.   I like to think that God has made more elbow room for a few more angels to oversee the rest of us left on this earth trying to make a go at it....I know I could use all the angels on my shoulders I can get and have been blessed in so many ways these past few years...

Wishing all of you the best life can offer...

Warmest regards,

Wow!!  I can't believe the response!  This is going to be awesome.  I still live here in Naples never left.  I see Sput and a few others that are still around town.  I wish I could have made the 20th but I was in NY State visiting my husband's family.  I've been married to Kenn for almost 24 years now.  We have 3 great kids Jessica (24) married with 2 kids Korbin 6 and Kaydince 3 and going to College, Jennifer (23) working for FPL, and Kenneth Jr (21) married with 1 child Lyllie.  He also works for FPL.  I can't wait to see everyone!  Great job so far Ed and Kathy.  See you guys soon.

Hey kids...  sure is great to see everyone popping in.  I hope everyone finds a minute to call Nancy K. or send a card...

Grace and I saw Major Al Farnum a few weeks back on his birthday.  He's livin' in a comfy spread north of Tampa and said to pass the 'howdys' around, so HELLO! from Major Farnum...  We'll give him a call to see if he can make it.

Well I hope everyone can make it!  See you at the Reunion...

So glad Ed finally got in touch with me.  I was wondering if there every were any reunions.  Like I said my time at Lely was short but I was one of the graduates and only really remember Buzz and Donna.  So Buzz if you read this, what is your real name?  Life is great and I will be so excited to go down and see everyone at the 30th.  Peace and Love for now, Shawn

Thanks for the invite. If the timing is right I'd be happing to join you. I only spent a little over a year at Lely but have fond memories. I havent' been in contact with anyone but it may be a nice time to visit family in Naples. In 30 years I'v gone From Naples to Ohio to Connecticut to Guatemala to finally settling in New York with my husband and five year old daughter.

Hard to believe; 30 years! Am I really that old?  Great looking over the pictures and seeing a lot of familiar faces, brings back a lot of memories. It's probably been 30 years since I've seen many from our graduating class, shameful I know..but I'm looking froward to making it down for this!

Wow!  What a response so far!

As far as teachers are concerned, Coach Tanner is still in town over at Golden Gate High School (where my oldest has graduated and have a senior there now - in fact, Tanner was his football coach too!).  Mr. Sadlefeld (sp?) is still in Naples, was teaching at NHS.

Can't wait to see everyone!  Please bring pictures of kids, grandkids, etc.  It'll be neat to look at.

Looking forward to a great time in '08!

TTYL -

Danna

I'm going to try and get as many teachers as possible to come.  I sent a few letters out already but no responses yet.  I even sent a letter to Mr. Gesdorf.  He's in Jacksonville now.  Keep checking the site.  More to come.

Hi everyone....

Thanks to all involved in this venture and wonderful website that tickled my memory beyond belief!

I'm working out the possible kinks to attend the 30th...looking forward to seeing everyone...wow it's been too long.

I'm in a transition part of my life after ending a marriage of 18 yrs in a difficult divorce and wonderful decision to leave a long-time R & D chemistry position to attend grad school to obtain a MAT degree to teach 7th grade science and algebra...long time dream of mine finally may come true :)   Crazy???  Most definitely!!!  Some things never change...ha ha...still adventureous as ever...maybe more so!

If possible, I will be attending the event with my 15 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son and making it a vacation as well since Alexandria and Nicholas have never been to Naples and it's been 25 or so years for me too.

Happy Holidays to all and sending many blessings to everyone.

Warmest regards,

Kelly

Looking at all the pictures sure brings back a flood of memories.  Looking at the pictures of the 20th I wish I had known about it at that time and not afterwards from Will.  In the picture with Donna and Paula is Will and his other half Mary Jane.I plan on making the journey from Utah for the 30th, gonna have to make sure Travis comes too.
